Advances in Flume Tests on Rainfall-Induced Landslides
Firstly, based on the research status of rainfall-induced landslide flume tests, the basic information of rainfall flume, interface seepage flume and rear edge catchment flume is briefly introduced, and the influence of the rainfall mode(the intensity, the duration, and the form of the rainfall),the soil type and soil physical parameters(the particle size distribution and the soil density)on the landslide stability are summarized.Secondly, the deformation and failure characteristics of slopes under the conditions of different soil types, particle size distribution and rainfall modes are clarified.Thirdly, three main formation mechanisms of rainfall-induced landslides are summarized, including the soil liquefaction caused by the excess pore water pressure, the shear strength reduction of the slope caused by water seepage erosion, and the shear thinning. Finally, the problems for the rainfall-induced landslide flume tests are proposed, and the suggestions to solve them and the direction of the future research are put forward. The study in this paper can be used as a reference for in-depth exploring the motion characteristics and formation mechanism of rainfall-induced landslide based on flume tests.
