The eastern region of the Nanyang Depression is a favorable direction area for oil and gas migration, with a large amount of remaining resources. The main types of oil reservoirs are structural oil reservoirs such as fault noses and fault blocks. The characterization of fault characteristics and the analysis of fault controlling oil and gas plays an important role in increasing reserves and production.Based on drilling and 3D seismic data, various fault detection methods such as coherent bodies are used to identify faults, characterize fault profiles and planar distribution characteristics, and classify fault levels and periods. The results show that the boundary faults in the eastern part of the Nanyang Depression exhibit a"shovel-shaped"or"seat-shaped"shape.On the secondary fault profile, there are combination styles such as"Y"shaped, stepped, and graben horst shaped styles, while on the plane, there are combination styles such as echelon, diagonal, and grid. The research area has developed Ⅱ-Ⅴ level faults, and there are rich patterns of profile and plane combinations between each level of faults. There are significant differences in the periods of fault activity. The fault system in the eastern region of Nanyang Depression has a favorable role in communicating source and reservoir, providing shelter, and forming traps, which is conducive to the enrichment and preservation of oil and gas.
