Fali is not an imported modern Western word,or a temporary term created by modern Japanese, but an original concept generated in China.Fali is an interactive word spreading from Chi-na to Japan, and then from Japan to China, which has gone through a two-way cross-over and recip-rocating journey. The word was generated in the Han Dynasty of China, and introduced into Japan in the Middle Ages, when it became a Japanese language. Then it was used by modern Japanese to in-troduce Western law,and to create the discipline of jurisprudence.Afterwards,it was transmitted back from Japan to China, and continued to develop and evolve in modern China and Japan. So far,few scholars have noticed that the concept of Fali was introduced from China to Japan and other coun-tries in the East Asian Chinese Character Cultural Circle in the Middle Ages, and later became a dis-course intermediary and ideological tool for modern Japanese to introduce and learn Western law.Ho-zumi Nobushige added the word"Xue"to Fali for corresponding it to the word"Jurisprudence".He established and named the discipline of jurisprudence as such. The word was reshaped into a modern specialized legal and political term.As an original Chinese concept spanning thousands of years with strong semantic bearing capacity, the contribution of Fali to the transformation of modernization of law in China,Japan, and even East Asia as a whole,as well as to the establishment and naming of mod-ern jurisprudence disciplines has been seriously ignored by the academic circle.Exploring the history of the extraterritorial application of Fali and its contribution to the transformation of legal moderniza-tion and the construction of modern jurisprudence disciplines will be helpful to continue the develop-ment of Chinese traditional culture, highlight the charm of Chinese civilization of the rule of law to the world, and enhance the national confidence in the construction of China's autonomous legal knowledge system.
