Does Appropriate Scale Management Promote the Formation of New Quality Productive Forces in Agriculture?Empirical Analysis Based on the Framework of"Productive Forces-Production mode-Labor Productivity"
The formation of new quality productive forces in agriculture is an important measure to improve agricultural efficiency and construct an agricultural powerhouse.Drawing upon the fundamental principles of political economy,this study establishes an analytical framework of"productive forces-production mode-labor productivity".Subsequently,a simultaneous equation model is developed,employing the control function(CF)approach to address endogeneity,utilizing panel data of provinces in China from 2006 to 2022.The new quality productive forces and production mode are reflected by science and technology innovation and scale management respectively,and the formation of new quality productive forces is measured by labor productivity,the empirical analysis examines the impact of appropriate scale management on science and technology innovation and agricultural labor productivity.The findings reveal that the impact of scale management on agricultural labor productivity exhibits an inverted U-shaped pattern,before achieving optimal scale,labor productivity increases with an augmentation in per capita arable land,furthermore,the impact of appropriate scale management on agricultural labor productivity with a more pronounced effect observed in major grain-producing regions.Appropriate scale management and technological innovation mutually reinforce each other,thereby validating the principle that productive forces influence the mode of production,and conversely,the mode of production affects productive forces,particularly in the agricultural domain.In addition to indirectly improving agricultural labor productivity by promoting science and technology innovation,appropriate scale management can also improve agricultural labor productivity by improving the efficiency of agricultural machinery and reducing the amount of fertilizer application.Therefore,to bolster the formation of new quality productive forces in agriculture,it is necessary to promote agricultural appropriate scale management.
