Effect of salt stress on germination growth of major rice varieties in Fujian Province
[Purpose]The optimal salt concentration for salt-tolerant rice varieties during seed germination was determined and a screening process was conducted to identify suitable rice varieties for cultivation in saline-alkali land, aiming to establish a founda-tion for producing high rice quality and yield.[Method]The seeds were treated with NaCl solutions of concentrations 50,100,and 150 mmol·L-1.Morphological and physiological indices of 12 major rice varieties in Fujian Province were measured.Correlation a-nalysis,membership functions, and cluster analysis were employed to evaluate salt tolerance performance.[Result](1)With in-creasing NaCl concentration, all tested rice varieties exhibited a consistent decline in relative germination potential, relative root and shoot lengths, and relative amylase activity.Conversely,a steady increase was observed in relative electrical conductivity,sugges-ting that salt treatment inhibited germination growth and significantly impaired membrane integrity.(2)Among the morphological and physiological indices, the maximum variability was observed in relative germination potential, relative root and shoot length,rel-ative protein content, relative electrical conductivity, and relative amylase and CAT activities at a salt concentration of 150 mmol·L-1,indicating that this concentration was suitable for screening varieties during germination.(3)High salt tolerance varie-ties included Quanyou 212,Quanyou 822,and Liangyou H108.Medium salt tolerance varieties included Changliangyou 8,Zhongzheyou 8,Yongyou 1540,Yexiangyou 676,Jingliangyou 1212,and Yexiangyou 744.Sensitive salt varieties included Guyou 676,Yongyou 15,and Yongyou 2640.[Conclusion]A NaCl concentration of 150 mmol·L-1 was identified as optimal for salt tolerance treatment.Quanyou 212,Quanyou 822,and Liangyou H108 exhibited significant salt tolerance during germination. This study will lay the groundwork for future studies on the mechanisms of salt tolerance in rice varieties and promote the use of sa-line-alkali soils for rice cultivation.
