Properly recognizing and understanding site engineers is a crucial prerequisite for training such professionals.Currently,there are disputes and misconceptions regarding the perception of site engineers in China,necessitating a thorough theoretical and practical clarification.By multidimension-al analysis,this paper clarifies the role and essence of site engineers in practical work,policy-making,and academic research,confirming the essential judgment that"site engineers fall under the category of engineering technologists".Adopting the comprehensive and extensively researched concept of"en-gineering technologists",this study provides a comparative analysis of their functional scope,occupa-tional essence,and required competencies from an international perspective,aiming to delineate a clear professional profile for site engineers.By elucidating the position of site engineers within engineering technology education,this research offers constructive directions for future studies in engineering technology education,aspiring to advance the optimization and international alignment of Chinese en-gineering and technical talent training models.
