The Mechanism of PhD Graduates Returning to Academic Career:From the Perspective of Social Constructivism
From the perspective of social constructivism, this study explores the mecha-nism and dilemma of PhD graduates who chose to return to academic careers. It finds that some PhD graduates experienced an unfavorable situation of interpersonal exclusion,assis-tance exclusion and development exclusion, and were continuously marginalized in the organ-ization after they had streamed to non-academic careers.Despite reflections on career aware-ness,academic identity, and enhanced motivation, they faced with multiple challenges, such as self-reconstruction,field gaze, and restriction of rights after resettling in academic ca-reers.To promote the career development and help PhD graduates have a smooth career switch,it is necessary to reposition the status of obtaining doctoral degrees, reconstruct the career education for PhD students and rebuild the compatibility of academic careers.
