Towards Sinicization:The Choice of the University of Nanking to Develop Graduate Education in History
In the spring of 1936,the History Research Department of the University of Nanking was formally established,which had contributed to the historiography of modern China through talent cultivation,academic research and research team construction,and en-riched the graduate education system during the period of the Nanjing National Government.However,the graduate education in history was not achieved overnight.The Correlated Pro-gram of the Council of Higher Education stipulated that it should not enter the postgraduate field,while the University of Nanking insisted on setting up the History Research Depart-ment for graduate work according to the Chinese government's plan.The choice showed its recognition of its identity as a private university in China,which was the epitome of the sur-vival and development of Christian universities in modern China in the game of multiple forces under the dual management system of China and the West.
