The Interweaving of Gender,Parenting, and Career Development——A Critical Review of"Academic Mothers"in an International Context
The"academic mothers"refer to female scholars who work in research-orien-ted universities, simultaneously fulfilling their teaching and research responsibilities while taking care for at least one child. As universities are increasingly dominated by the merito-cratic evaluation system, scholars need devote themselves to their work and produce as much academic output as possible. The contradiction between childbearing and continuously in-creasing personal academic productivity makes it difficult for"academic mothers"to thrive. In order to gain more opportunities for career development,"academic mothers"not only re-ly on their own wisdom and courage, but also depend on the strong institutional support and creating a fertility-friendly cultural environment.
