The Path,Characteristics,and Implications of Community Engagement among British College Students—A Case Study of University College London
Community engagement among college students is a core component of citizenship education in UK.Practice of community engagement in University College London(UCL)is divided into curricular and extracurricular paths.On the one hand,it is combined with curricular to guide students in learning and applying knowledge in practice;on the other hand,it is combined with volunteering services,such as community partners,student-led volunteering projects and community research initiative for students.It has such characteristics as focusing on civic education,cultivating knowledge application and service capabilities as the core,promoting both curricular and extracurricular activities,and equipping high-level personnel teams.Drawing on the experience of UCL,Chinese universities should establish the principle of cultivating values through practice,clarify the core content of service ability,and construct a collaborative education mechanism between curricular and extracurricular activities to achieve high-quality development of practical education in the new era.
