Beyond the Controversy Between "Dao" and "Technology":Multiple Cognitions and Active Choices of Teacher Educators in the Age of Technology
Drawing on Marshall McLuhan's media theory, this paper selects six activist teacher educators as partici-pants and analyzes their perceptions of and choices about technology. The study found that the essence of the debate between"Dao"and"technology"in teacher education is a one-sided understanding of technology based on the tech-nical rationality of teacher education. From the practice of teacher educators, technology is not only a tool, but also the content itself and the real environment in which contemporary teacher education takes place;technology affects the concepts, processes, and effectiveness of teacher education, and shapes each other. The"Dao"and the"technolo-gy"of teacher education in the age of technology complement each other. The study also found that teacher educa-tors'technological perceptions and choices are closely related to the"technological availability"of their universities.
