The Western Images in the Travelogues of Chinese Writers to the West from 1949 to 1966
The Western images imagined by Chinese writers in their travelogue literature from 1949 to 1966 not only show their cultural ideals and revolutionary impulses to replace and drive away Western ideologies with socialist ideology, but also embody various factors such as historical memory, national consciousness, and emotional tendencies of Chinese writers since the Opium War.We can't deny that under the influ-ence of strong political ideology,Chinese writers during this period treated the economic, political and moral images of the West as otherness. However,in today's Western countries, the problems revealed by Chinese writers during this period, such as objectification of people, class inequality and opposition,ex-treme selfishness and hedonism, have not only not been solved but have also become increasingly serious. Therefore, during this period, the Chinese travelogue that wrote about the West was not anti-modernity,but had very important modernity value against western capitalist modernity.
