This study begins by examining the text of the late Ming Dynasty literatus Huang Zhouxing's The Memoirs of the Jiangjiu Garden and the plan of the garden in the text, exploring the relationship between the garden spirit and elements conceived by Huang Zhouxing. The garden spirit is manifested through the order and elements in which Huang Zhouxing organizes this ideal garden space.Subsequently, the works of early 20th-century modernist architects Li Chengkuang and Wang Dahong are analyzed to understand how they integrate garden spirit with modern architecture in their designs.Further, completed projects that continue to explore order and elements of gardens are used as examples to elucidate how classical gardens can be transformed in modern architectural designs, such as order interpretation based on the Jiugongge(Nine Square Grid)paradigm. This study summarizes how abstract order and elements are integrated into modern spaces during the design process to become a spirit-bearing medium for transforming classical gardens in modern architectural design.
