Objective To discuss the influence on blood lipid, NO and VEGF of mappianthus iodoies flavonoids (MIF) in atherosclerosis (As) rats. Methods Sixty male SD rats were random allocated. As rats model was established, while drug intervention were also given.Six weeks after the treatment, blood samples were collected using eyeball removal method.Serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were assessed. After 12 weeks, culling heart blood samples were collected, as superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), total oxidation ability (T-AOC), nitric oxide (NO) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were assessed. The thoracic aortas were collected for pathological observation. Results Compared with NC group, TC, TG, LDL-C, AI and LDL-C/HDL-C were significantly increased and MDA, VEGF, SOD and T-AOC were significantly reduced in the MC group (P<0.05).Compared with MC group, MIF can significantly reduce the serum TC, TG, LDL-C, SOD, and MDA;increased HDL-C and T-AOC;and improved the As related factor NO (P<0.05).High dose MIF significantly improved VEGF concentration (P<0.05).Conclusion MIF may increase the antioxidant capacity, and adjust the release of NO and VEGF factor, thus to prevent atherosclerosis.
