Study of the Overall Stability of Curved Members in the Design of Cranes
Due to the good stability of steel box girders,in the current 《Specifications for the Design of Cranes》,the overall stability is only ensured by limiting the ratio of height to width of the of steel box girders(namely,h/b0≤3.0). With the continuous development of the technology in steel structures, the strength of the steel used becomes increasingly high. However, because of the requirements of certain special equipment used for the steel girder in its working environment, the ratio of height to width of the cross-section of the steel box girder may have to exceed the regulations prescribed in 《Specifications for the Design of Cranes》.In the light of 《Specifications for the Design of Steel Structures》and through the finite element analysis method, steel box girders with different ratios of height to width are simulated and calculated in the paper, which shows that the overall stability can still be guaranteed when the ratio of height to width of steel box girders is increased to h/b0≤4.0.The result of our research may serve as a beneficial reference for the design of the steel box girders of cranes.
