A Review of'Gugong Studies'of 20 Years——Connotation,Mission and Prospect
The thesis demonstrates'Gugong Studies'in connotation referring to the four aspects of the essential conceptual framework,the research fields in the historical buildings,collected antiques,ancient books,documented files and literature,the Ming-Qing court history and culture as well as the history of the Palace Museum by reviewing its academic progress and achievements of the past 20 years.It is therefore proposed that'Gugong Studies'should take as its mission to make a holistic approach to Chinese culture,to study the Sino-foreign exchanging and learning civilizations from each other,to construct the open academic system positively raising the voice of'Gugong Studies',and to further explore the protection and inheritance of cultural heritages.It is desired that the'Gugong Studies'based on the imperial palace keeps going forward from nationwide to worldwide carrying out consistently in-depth exploration into the vast,profound and brilliant treasures of knowledge on the subject,which will contribute to Chinese culture's inheritance and innovation along with its increasing impacts on the globalized world.
