An Archaeological-Excavation Report on the Thousand-Buddha Cliff-Side Statues in Huozhou,Shanxi Province
Huozhou City,located at the northern end of Linfen City and the utmost northern of Southern Shanxi Province,neighboring the central Lingshi County,plays a key role connecting the central and southern of the region.This joint archaeological excavation is carried out to the Thousand-Buddha cliff-sided group statues,which is among the largest cliff-side statue sites in Huozhou City,and the largest in the Linfen and even in the Southern region of Shanxi Province.The Thousand-Buddha cliff-sided statues are dated to the Tang Dynasty.The project holds significant value for the study of the Tang-dynasty Buddhist statues in Southern Shanxi Province and the understanding of the sources and dissemination of Esoteric Buddhism.
