Plausible but Untrue'Guiping(归平)':Reviewing with the Survey Drawings of Dougong of Sansheng Hall in Shanhua Temple in 1934
As a major timber building of the early Jin dynasty, the Sansheng Hall of the Shanhua Temple in Datong of Shanxi Province survives as a case in point significant for the study of the genealogy of craftsmanship and techniques applied to the historical timber architecture in the northern China over the Song,Liao and Jin dynasties, especially the rare Six-Puzuo Dougong(Brackets)with single Miao(杪)and double Xiaang(下昂)it adopted. This thesis demonstrates such skillful-designed components by the survey drawings of the Dougong(Brackets)of Sansheng Hall together with field survey and measurement, gathering the data much informatively valuable for tracing the craftsmanship in the follow-up researches.
