An Investigation Report on Zhongyan Temple Cliff-sided Statues in Qingshen County,Sichuan Province
The site of Zhongyan Temple cliff-sided statues located in Ruifeng Town,Qingshen County,Meishan City,Sichuan Province are ranked among the seventh list of nation-level key cultural relics protection sites,where 58 niched statues survive,dated back from the Tang,the Five Dynasties,the Ming and the Qing dynasties,flourishing during the Late Tang and the Five Dynasties.The number of Zhongyan Temple cliff-sided statues is large,some are well-preserved.The niche-enshrined images show the distinctive features of times,variety of themes,some in unique style,together with the impacts from other Buddha sculptures of the Tang to Five Dynasties in Chuan-Yu region.They survive as physical objects significant for studying the development track of the cliff-sided statues and the evolution of religions in Meishan and even Sichuan and Chongqing areas.
