An Iconography Analysis of the Ming Dynasty Murals in the Myriad Buddha Cave of the Hanging Monastery in Yulin
The Ten-Thousand-Buddha Cave,the Myriad Buddha Cave,of the Hanging Monastery(Xuankong Si)in Yulin houses the murals as the representative of Ming-Dynasty grotto art in northern Shaanxi.It is studied in the thesis that the well-composed murals thematically embody the fusion of the idea of the three-in-one of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism eliminating disasters and praying for blessings,Bodhisattva relieving,and to be reborn in the pure land with the worship in the three Deities of heaven and earth and water,which is the result of the combination of the Buddhism,social trend of thought and folk beliefs in the Ming Dynasty.The murals very much fulfill the content of the Buddhist art of the Ming Dynasty with rich connotation and exquisite techniques.
