A Report on the Archaeological Excavation of Pictorial-Brick Tomb in Liuwa Village of Zhenping County of Henan Province
The archaeological excavation was carried out to a rectangle-shaped chambered-tomb decorated with pictorial bricks in Liuwa village,Zhenping County of Henan Province in 199o,with the result of a great deal of findings of pottery objects such as tripod,box,urn,well,barn,dogs,chickens and ducks as burial objects.Most of all,on the four walls,tomb gate and the animal-head doorknobs'pedestals are the inlaid brick-reliefs depicting Que(watchtower),doorman,lotus bud,animal-head doorknob,winged-fairy holding an immortal tree in the hand and more.The brick reliefs present various motifs,some of which are ever seen nowhere else.The chambered-tomb is unparalleled in design with tiled-floor and the back wall built with end-superimpose-structured bricks.So this Liuwa Village's tomb provides data valuable for the study of burial customs in the Han Dynasty.
