Effects of water stress and rewatering on chlorophyll content in pea leaves
A pot experiment was carried under artificial water control to study the effects of water stress and rewater-ing on chlorophyll content in pea leaves .The results showed that the content of chlorophyll a (Chla) ,chlorophyll b (Chlb ) and total chlorophyll (Total chl ) were significantly higher than those of the control treatment (CK ) under water stress at seedling stage .The ratio of chlorophyll a vs .b (a/b) was increased first and then went decreased .At the be-ginning of flowering ,the contents of Chla ,Chlb and Total chl were significantly higher than those of CK under short du-ration of water stress ,and became decreased under long duration of water stress .The a/b ratio was also increased first and was then decreased .At pod filling stage ,the contents of Chla and Total chl were significantly higher than those of CK .The content of Chlb was higher than CK under mild water stress ,but lower than that of CK under the severe stress . The a/b ratio was close to CK under the mild stress ,but higher than CK under severe stress .The chlorophyll composi-tions were decreased after long duration of stress .After rewatering ,there was a compensation effect on chlorophyll com-positions .The compensation effects at seedling stage and at the beginning of flowering were higher than that at pod filling stage .
