The multi-time-scale response of NDVI to temperature and precipitation in semiarid areas——A case study for Yuzhong County of Gansu Province
The relationship between the vegetation cover of semiarid area and temperature and precipitation are compact. We analyzed the multi-time-scale responses of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) to temperature and precipitation by three different methods in each ten-day,month and quarter period covering 1998 to 2008 based on the SPOT VGT-NDVI data and temperature and precipitation data. The results indicated that on the whole, the response of NDVI to the variation of temperature was greater than to that of precipitation in semiarid areas, especially in monthly time scale.Comparing among these three different methods, the first method is the most effective method which can relationship the responses of NDVI to temperature and precipitation at semiarid area. However, the responses of NDVI to temperature and precipitation conditions will changed by other relative elements such as time scale, space scale and the type of vegetation.
