High standard farmland construction is an important measure to achieve efficient utilization of farmland and ensure national food security.Based on field survey data from 1025 farmers in 10 provinces across the country, this paper uses Probit model to empirically test the impact of high standard farmland construction on farmers'farmland abandonment behavior. The research results show that:1)The construction of high standard farmland significantly negatively impacts the farmers'farmland abandonment behavior. After introducing instrumental variables to deal with endogenous problems, the results are stable.2)Farmer's farmland transfer and mechanization input level play an intermediary role in the process of high standard farmland construction affecting farmland abandonment.3)Heterogeneity analysis shows that the inhibition effect of high standard farmland construction on farmland abandonment is more obvious in part-time farmers, large scale farmers, farmers with low non-agricultural transfer degree, and plain and hilly areas. Therefore,we should vigorously promote the construction of high standard farmland, explore new models of high standard farmland construction according to local conditions, encourage multi-party cooperation to improve farmland supporting services, improve farmland utilization rate, and alleviate the problem of farmland resource waste.
