To explore the spatial form of traditional villages and the influencing factors,it is necessary to understand their differences and correlations from multiple perspectives.Taking the traditional villages in northern Shanxi in the Ming and Qing dynasties as an example,we summarize and construct the genealogy by extracting the genes that affect the formation and development of the spatial form of the villages. The results show as follows:1)The street density and building density of traditional villages in northern Shanxi are negatively correlated with the terrain, but positively correlated with the village boundary.2)Layout characteristics and architectural characteristics genes play a leading role in the spatial form of traditional villages in northern Shanxi, and affect the development of local cultural features.3)Gene identification and genealogy construction can expand the research methods and perspectives of traditional villages, discover contemporary problems in the construction of traditional villages, and provide theoretical basis for the development of local regional culture, protection, inheritance, renewal and utilization of traditional villages.
