The impact of face consciousness on food waste:Promotion or inhibition?
This research investigates the effects of different face-saving consciousnesses on food waste behavior in restaurants and their mechanisms of action, and analyzes the moderating role of context in these mechanisms. It is found that social face awareness triggers food waste behavior by motivating individual status motivation, and moral face awareness reduces food waste behavior by enhancing the sense of responsibility.Moral face-saving motivates a greater sense of responsibility in private situations than in public situations.Social face-consciousness motivates more status motivation and leads to more wasteful behaviors in the public context than in the private context.
