Influence of agricultural extension modes on farmers'adoption of scientific fertilization techniques:The moderating effect of social trust
It is of great significance to realize the green development of agriculture to continuously promote the reduction and efficiency of chemical fertilizers and help the transformation of scientific fertilization techniques.Using data from a micro-survey of 1246 farmers in rice-producing areas of Hubei Province, this study empirically examines the impact of different agricultural extension modes on farmers'adoption of scientific fertilization techniques and the moderating effect of social trust. The results show that:1)Information-supported extension,technically-supported extension and emotionally-supported extension all have a significant favorable influence on farmers'adoption of scientific fertilization techniques.2)Social trust has a substitution moderating effect on the impact of technically-supported and emotionally-supported extension on farmers'adoption of scientific fertilization techniques.3)There are variations in the impact of different agricultural extension modes on the adoption of different types of scientific fertilization techniques.Specifically,information-supported,technically-supported,and emotionally-supported extensions significantly positively impact farmers'adoption of efficient fertilization techniques.Information-supported extension significantly positively impacts farmers'adoption of new fertilizer products.Accordingly,it is proposed that agricultural extensions should be innovated, and that targeted and precise measures should be taken for the groups of farmers with different levels of social trust and for different types of scientific fertilization techniques.
