Empirical study on the impact of grassroots response on environmental performance
As the national environmental governance system becomes increasingly perfect,the role of grassroots environmental governance cannot be ignored.Based on the analysis of grassroots environmental governance from a democratic perspective,it is found that response can unify democracy and environment in value,and then we used micro-data from J District of the county-level city in eastern China to empirically test the relationship between grassroots responsiveness and environmental performance.The study found that grassroots responsiveness can significantly promote environmental performance,and the conclusion is robust after confounding bias test and instrumental variable method estimation.Further exploration of the mechanism reveals that cooperation and co-governance is an important positive channel between the grassroots response and environmental performance.The contribution of this article is to bring the responsiveness perspective into grassroots environmental governance,supplement the empirical evidences to related researches through empirical research,and provide guidance for the strategic goals of environmental governance modernization.
