Hierarchical decomposition of factors influencing farmers'behaviour of adopting water saving techniques:A Oprobit-ISM model based analysis
Adoption of water-saving technologies by farmers can effectively alleviate the issue of agricultural water shortage and improve agricultural water use efficiency.Based on 2,661 micro-survey data from the middle and upper reaches of the Yellow River Basin, the paper analyzes the factors influencing the farmers'behaviour of adopting water-saving techniques and their intrinsic response mechanisms by using the ordered probit model and ISM model. The results showed that:1)Education level, agricultural income share, cultivated land operation area, farmers'technology cognition, economic cognition, ecological cognition, social network, village collective economic situation, irrigation conditions, irrigation cost, and technology promotion and technology training all significantly and positively influence the farmers'behaviour of adopting water-saving techniques.2)Education level, cultivated land operation area, village collective economic situation, and technology promotion and technology training are the deep-rooted factors that affect farmers'adoption of water-saving techniques.3)Deep-rooted factors directly drive farmers'adoption of water-saving techniques by affecting the proportion of farm income, technology awareness, irrigation conditions and social networks, and then affecting irrigation costs, economic awareness and ecological awareness.4)The influencing factors form a"three paths"hierarchical structure.Based on the results of the study, the paper proposes countermeasures to promote farmers'behaviour of adopting water-saving techniques.
