Social capital, environmental awareness and farmer's behavior of participat-ing in environmental governance
The Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang is a typical ecologically fragile area in China. The issues of protection and restoration of ecological environment are very serious, which poses a threat to the production and life of residents around the basin.Based on the"main force"of rural environmental governance, this paper takes 881 farmers living around the basin as samples, and uses ordered Probit model to study the influence of social capital and environmental cognition level on farmers'behavior of participating in environmental governance and its differential factors. The results show that social network, social trust and social participation significantly pro-mote farmers'participation in environmental governance, among which social trust plays the most important role.External environment cognition, ecological policy cognition and economic value cognition all play an intermediary role between social capital and farmers'participation in environmental governance. The impact of heterogeneous social capital on farmers'participation in environmental governance is greater than that of homogeneous social capital, and social communication in heterogeneous social capital can significantly promote farmers'participation in environmental governance. Therefore,it is necessary to improve the environmental cognition level of farmers, vigorously promote ethnic exchanges, and promote the formation of heterogeneous social capital,so as to improve the enthusiasm of farmers to participate in environmental governance.
