Business scale, time preference, and adoption of biopesticides technology by farmers:A perspective of cross period agricultural technology
Using survey data from rice growers in Jiangsu, this study explores the cross-period attributes of biopesticides technology and the resulting adoption behavior of farmers.Research has found that biopesticides technology has the characteristic of cross period benefits. While ensuring that crop yield is not affected, the longer the cumulative service life of biopesticides is,the more significant the pesticide reduction effect is.Due to the cross-period nature of biopesticides, there are significant differences in the adoption behavior of farmers with different scales.Compared to small-scale farmers,large-scale farmers have weaker time preferences and focus more on long-term benefits, preferring to use biopesticides technology.Furthermore,it was found that for large-scale farmers, longer land tenure affects technological benefits and promotes their adoption of biopesticides. In this regard,it is necessary to vigorously popularize the cross-period characteristics of biopesticides technology, and use differentiated incentive methods for farmers with different scales to adopt biopesticides technology.
