Research on Trade Opening Effect of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor:Based on the Perspective of Integrating Into the Joint Construction of the Belt and Road
Integrating into the joint construction of the Belt and Road(B&R)is the important strategic positioning for China's high-standard construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor(ILSTC).Based on the panel data of 129 cities in China from 2010 to 2021,this paper uses the multi-period DID model to objectively evaluate the trade opening effect of the ILSTC.The research shows that:firstly, compared with the expansion of the scale of imports, the construction of the ILSTC is more conducive to stimulating export trade of the participating cities, but it is susceptible to the influence of international environment, resulting in a fluctuating trend;secondly, the ILSTC effectively promotes trade opening of the underdeveloped cities along the ILSTC,especially those located along the coast, the border and the main corridor, but it exerts trade siphon effect on the cities along the extension belt of the corridor;thirdly, the ILSTC realizes trade opening through improving logistics infrastructure and building multimodal transport system of"railways, highways and waterways",and it is effectively linked with the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)to jointly promote China's opening-up and development. These conclusions provide reliable empirical support for the ILSTC to drive the opening of China's western hinterland, and provide important reference for further participation in the construction of B&R.
