Does Environmental Regulation Promote Trade Mode Transformation of the Enterprises:Evidence Based on Quasi-natural Experiments
Environmental governance and trade mode transformation are the core concerns of China's high-quality economic development.Based on China's micro enterprise data from 2000 to 2009,this paper takes the implementation of COD emission control plan during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan as the quasi-natural experiment and uses DID method and event analysis method to identify the impact of environmental regulation on trade mode transformation of China's enterprises and its mechanism.The research shows that environmental regulation promotes trade mode transformation of the enterprises in both"quantity"and"quality",and the research conclusion is still valid after a series of hypothesis tests and robustness tests on the benchmark results;environmental regulation promotes trade mode transformation of export enterprises through increasing enterprise costs and improving technological level;environmental regulation exerts a stronger promotion effect on trade mode transformation of the enterprises in the pollution-intensive industry,the enterprises in processing trade transformation region,non-state-owned enterprises and smaller enterprises.The conclusions of this paper provide new ideas for accelerating the transformation of foreign trade and have enlightening significance for the high-quality development of foreign trade and the construction of a trader of quality.
