The Impact of Digital Trade on China's Economic Resilience:Empirical Evidence From China's Cities
As a new engine of global economic development, digital trade is of great significance in boosting economic resilience.Based on the data of China's cities from 2011 to 2021,this paper explores the impact of digital trade on economic resilience. It is found that digital trade has a significant promotion effect on economic resilience. The mechanism test shows that the main channels through which digital trade enhances economic resilience are the effect of the development of new economic sectors, the effect of foreign direct investment and the effect of green technology innovation. The spatial effect test reveals that the development of digital trade exerts a negative spatial spillover effect on economic resilience of the neighboring cities. The heterogeneity test indicates that the development of digital trade has a more significant impact on promoting economic resilience in non-resource-based cities, large cities, coastal cities and the cities with the developed tertiary industries.Further research shows that the policy of"National E-commerce Demonstration City"which promotes the development of digital trade can significantly enhance economic resilience, and the role of digital trade in enhancing economic resilience has a marginal increasing evolutionary effect. The research findings provide policy insights for building a digital trade powerhouse and strengthening economic resilience.
