China-ASEAN Industrial Chain Cooperation and Inclusive Growth:A Study Based on Inter-country Spillover Effects
Promoting inclusive economic growth and mutual benefit within the region is essential for China-ASEAN industrial chain cooperation.Based on panel data of the economies and industries in China-ASEAN region from 1995 to 2018,this paper empirically examines the impact of China-ASEAN industrial chain cooperation on inclusive economic growth within the region. The research reveals that:(1)China-ASEAN industrial chain cooperation can promote inclusive economic growth within the region from the perspectives of efficiency and equity, and this effect is heterogeneous due to the differences in the industries and the landmark executive agreements;(2)mechanism test shows that China-ASEAN industrial chain cooperation mainly promotes inclusive growth at the level of efficiency by improving productivity and employment demand, and achieves inclusive growth at the level of fairness by narrowing the gap in institutional quality and technology;(3)extended research indicates that it is difficult to achieve inclusive growth through industrial chain cooperation outside the region;the"quantity"rather than"quality"of regional trade agreements strengthens the inclusive growth effect of China-ASEAN industrial chain cooperation.
