Interdisciplinary Integration in the Perspective of"Structural Duality":Ideal Types,Realistic Challenges, and"Unexpected Consequences"
Based on the theory of"structural duality"and drawing inspiration from the concept of"ideal types",this study constructs ideal types of interdisciplinary fusion structures—"externally driven development type structure","internally driven construction type structure","externally driven maintenance type structure",and"internally driven suspension type structure".It has been found that the current practice of interdisciplinary integration deviates from the ideal model of"internal driven construction structure",and there are practical challenges such as formalization of interdisciplinary integration, strong reflective monitoring of supervision and assessment, and strategic selection and alienation of interdisciplinary integration process by builders of interdisciplinary integration. The unexpected consequences of multiple actors promoting and maintaining a"suspended"secondary structure characterized by formalization and discipline in repeated reproduction.Deeply promoting interdisciplinary integration requires the guidance of"endogenous institutional innovation",with the creation of new organizational forms as the basis, innovative management systems as the carrier, the creation of interdisciplinary ecology as the foundation, optimization of evaluation systems as the guide, and the cultivation of"internal driven construction oriented structure".
