World Orientation and Strategic Choice of Basic Discipline Construction in Chinese Universities—An Analytical Perspective Based on"International Academic Weight"
Basic disciplines play a strategic supporting role in building a strong education country.Since the implementation of the"Double First-Class"policy,the construction of basic disciplines in Chinese universities has achieved significant results,but compared with world-class universities,there is still room for improvement.Based on the GRAS data from 2017 to 2023,the world pattern and China's coordinates for the development of basic disciplines were clarified through"international academic weight".The results indicate that the basic disciplines of world universities have formed an overall pattern composed of five squares,with China in the second square.The international academic weight of chemistry,computer science and engineering in Chinese universities exceeds 25%,ranking in the first square;the international academic weight of Earth Science,Ocean Science,Atmospheric Science,and Mathematics exceeds 10%and enters the second round;physics,geography,biology,and basic medicine are in a third party.Compared with the United States,the"barrel structure"of basic disciplines in Chinese universities is not very balanced.The action plan for the construction of basic disciplines in Chinese universities is to establish a"dual cycle"alliance for the development of basic disciplines,accelerate the construction of independent knowledge systems in basic disciplines,and stimulate the endogenous motivation of scientific researchers.
