Breaking the"Onlys":Dilemmas,Causes, and Solutions in the Reform of University Faculty Evaluation from the Perspective of Academic Capital
As the reform of university faculty evaluation in China continues to progress, initial successes have been achieved in breaking the"five onlys".However, the issue of"only hats"remains prominent, and the"only projects"has become an unintended consequence.Academic titles and research projects,as forms of academic capital, have gradually become distorted through continuous accumulation and transformation. This distortion has seriously harmed the cultivation of scientific and technological talent, the development of scientific and technological innovation capabilities, the stimulation of intrinsic innovation motivation, and the shaping of research value orientations. The shaping effect of academic capital generation is an inducing factor, the amplifying effect of academic capital transformation is a core factor, and the agglomerating effect of academic capital monopoly is an enhancing factor. To effectively break the"onlys"in university faculty evaluation,it is necessary to expand the pathways for generating academic capital, reverse the logic of academic capital transformation, and break the vicious cycle of academic capital monopoly. This can be achieved through the implementation of characteristic-based evaluations, strengthening the support from the research environment, and unleashing the vitality of academic communities, thereby establishing a more favorable academic evaluation ecosystem for university faculty development.
