Economic circle construction and regional coordinated development are important links in promoting high-quality national economic development, and higher vocational education plays an important role in them.Using the development data of higher vocational education from 2012 to 2021 as the analysis object, this study explores the structural changes and regional differences in the layout of higher vocational education in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,Yangtze River Delta,Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao,and Chengdu-Chongqing regions.Research has found that from 2012 to 2021,the layout structure of higher vocational education in the four major economic zones has been optimized, but the internal balance level within the regions is insufficient;higher vocational education in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions is seeking differentiated layouts based on a good foundation of education, while higher vocational education in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao,and Chengdu-Chongqing regions is facing severe challenges brought about by the surge in student enrollment;although the layout of higher vocational education effectively meets the educational needs of people in the region, its adaptability to the economic development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Chengdu-Chongqing regions needs to be improved. To further enhance the adaptability of higher vocational education to regional economic development,it is necessary to strengthen inter provincial coordination and promote vocational education layout planning that is compatible with regional economic distribution;promote the balanced flow of higher vocational education resources within the economic zone by leveraging strengths over weaknesses;promote integration and sharing, and deepen the co construction of elements for cultivating high skilled talents in the economic zone.
