The Impact of Patent Quality on Foreign Direct Investment in High-technology Industries from the Perspective of Spatial Correlation
As China promotes higher-standard opening-up,this paper analyzes, from the perspective of spatial correlation, how patent quality attracts high-quality foreign direct investment(FDI),providing theoretical and policy support to promote the quality and lev-el of trade and investment cooperation.Using data from the Chinese Patent Database and information on newly established foreign-invested enterprises, this paper investigates the mechanisms, constraints, and driving factors through which the spatial spillover of patent quality, within the context of regional integration, impacts FDI in high-technology indus-tries.This paper finds:first, patent quality exhibits spatial correlation, influencing FDI in high-technology industries in related regions through channels of technology distance and sustainable innovation capability.Second, administrative boundaries limit the impact of patent quality on FDI in associated regions.Although regional integration tends to weaken these constraints of administrative boundaries,it also introduces new limiting boundaries.Third,in the context of regional integration, patent quality, driven by regional policies, transportation networks, and industrial linkages, generates spatial spillover effects that in-fluence FDI in high-technology industries in related regions.Based on these findings, this paper proposes countermeasures and recommendations to enhance mechanisms of regional integration and attract high-quality FDI through improved patent quality.
