Digital Divide and Chinese Modernization:Theoretical Analysis and Empirical Testing
The panel data of 30 provinces from 2014 to 2022 were used to explore the impact of the digital divide on Chinese modernization from both theoretical analysis and empirical testing per-spectives.The results show that:The digital divide is a significant factor hindering the development of Chinese modernization.The impact of the digital divide on Chinese modernization development is primarily concentrated on the use divide,but there is a trend towards a shift to the outcome divide.The influence of the digital divide on Chinese modernization exhibits a marginal increasing trend.It is characterized by being greater in the northern region than the southern region,greater in the west-ern region than the eastern region,and greater in the central region.The digital divide hampers Chi-nese modernization development by diminishing market vitality,widening the income gap between urban and rural residents,and slowing down the pace of industrial structural upgrading.
