The Research on the Impact of Infrastructure Investment on Regional Consumption in China
The material capital accumulation is the foundation of product production, and the infrastructure investment is the formation process of material capital accumulation. Its construction and improvement are not only the embodiments of hard power of a region's economic development, but also the guarantees of accelerating the production, transportation and circulation of products and improving the terminal consumption level of residents.By using the inter-provincial panel data from 2007-2022 in China, this paper quantitatively investigates the impact of infrastructure investment on the regional consumption from different perspectives. The research results show that the infrastruc-ture investment has significantly raised the regional consumption level. Moreover, due to the time de-lay,the current infrastructure investment has a significant role in promoting the regional consumption in the next two periods. In addition, the impact of infrastructure investment on the consumption var-ies among different regions.Especially, the infrastructure investment in the central and west regions has a strong role in promoting the regional consumption;however, the promoting role in the eastern region is relatively weak. Finally, this spatial effect analysis finds that the infrastructure investment not only significantly promotes the consumption of local region, but also significantly promotes the consumption in the adjacent regions;however, the promoting role in the adjacent regions is weaker than that of local region.
