Risk Management in Organizational Digital Transformation:A Punctuated Equilibrium Perspective
Based on the theoretical framework of punctuated equilibrium, this study ex-plores the challenges and risk management associated with organizational digital transforma-tion.Digital transformation is a complex, dynamic, and nonlinear process, encompassing stages of informatization, digitalization, and intelligentization. From the perspective of punctuated equilibrium, the digital transformation process within organizations can be segmented into three phases:the equilibrium phase, during which organizations primarily rely on traditional methods for operations and management;the punctuation phase, which is characterized by the initiation of digital transformation, driven by the adoption of new digital tools and methods that substan-tially alter operational and managerial frameworks;and the new equilibrium phase, where dig-ital transformation is successfully achieved, resulting in the establishment of a more efficient and flexible operational and management system. The success of digital transformation depends fundamentally on the organization's capacity for innovation, which requires the integration of digital infrastructure, architecture, individual capabilities, and creativity.Digital transforma-tion is not a one-off event but a continuous process, and effective risk management is essential throughout its implementation. This study provides a novel theoretical perspective and practical insights for comprehensively understanding and effectively managing the process of organiza-tional digital transformation.
