The gig economy's robust and dynamic growth has invigorated the job market and urban dynamism, but it also poses challenges to social order and public safety.Consequent-ly,the social deviance of gig workers has emerged as a key concern for both government and society.Drawing on the theory of social anomie, this paper conducts a time-lagged analysis of 604 gig workers to investigate the mechanism by which perceived algorithmic control influ-ences social deviance, with a focus on the mediating role of immersion pressure and the mod-erating effect of existential challenges. The findings indicate that perceived algorithmic control is linked to increased social deviance among gig workers, with immersion stress acting as a mediator in this relationship.Additionally, existential challenges were found to modulate the mediating effect of immersion stress. The study concludes with recommendations for platform companies to refine their algorithmic systems, for regulators to craft public protection policies, and for individual workers to bolster self-regulation.
