Quality Management and Firm Innovation:Linking Bayesian Network and Structural Equations Model
Innovation is of paramount importance to building core competition capability of firms.Schol-ars have introduced quality management(QM)in innovation process with the purpose to improve innovation efficiency. However, the relationship between QM and innovation is still ambiguous.Based on the capability theory, this paper introduced the construct of new product development capability as a mediator, estimated the equivalence of Bayesian network and structural equations model in terms of dealing with causal relationships, and conducted latent class analysis. Finally, this paper constructed a Bayesian network related to the relation-ship between QM practices and innovation, and analyzed the influencing mechanism of QM on innovation and the non-linear relationship between QM and innovation. The results indicate the influence of infrastructure QM practices and core QM practices on innovation performance has significant differences, and there is a significant nonlinear relationship between infrastructure QM practice, core QM practice, new product development capa-bility,and innovation performance. The results validated influencing mechanism of QM practices on innova-tion,and validated the differences of various types QM practices on innovation performance.Furthermore, this paper validated the non-linear relationship between QM practices and innovation performance using probabilis-tic inference of Bayesian network.
