Global Roadmap for Regulating the Application of Generative AI in Education and Research:the Interpretation and Enlightenment of UNESCO Guidelines for Generated AI in Education and Research
With the introduction and rapid iteration of Generative Artificial Intelligence(GenAI),represented by GPT,GenAI has created a tremendous boost to education and research, while also posing unprecedented risks and challenges. On September 7,2023,the UNESCO released Guidelines for generated AI in Education and Research. The textual analysis of the guidelines introduces the background of the document, discusses the controversies and negative impacts of GenAI,presents a policy framework for the application of GenAI in education and research, and builds its"road-map"in education and research.Taking into account the current status of GenAI use in education and research in China, recommendations are made to Chinese government departments,AI companies, schools and educational institutions, teachers, researchers, and students respectively:government agencies should improve policy frameworks and enhance public participation;technology companies should adhere to a people-centered approach and uphold digital justice;schools and educational institutions should build or revise school-based policies, reshape the learning environment, and conduct relevant AI training;teachers should transform teaching methods, engage in human-machine collaboration, and provide ethical demonstrations;researchers should expand research areas and improve research efficiency;students should use tools wisely and reinforce classical skills.
