Macro Trends,Key Technologies,and Development Scenarios for Digital Transformation in Higher Education—Interpretation of 2024 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report:Teaching and Learning Edition
The 2024 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report:Teaching and Learning Edition illustrates six macro trends in the future of higher education:social,technological,economic,environmental,political,and AI,and introduces six technologies and practices that will impact the digital transformation of higher education:exploring the appropriate application of AI technologies,improving AI fluency,supporting equitable and inclusive learning,protecting data privacy and security,tackling misinformation in practice,and supporting mental health.Meanwhile,it predicts that there will be four development scenarios of higher education in the future:growth,collapse,constraint and transformation,which has become an important reference for governments to promote the digital transformation of higher education in the future.Compared with previous years,the 2024 edition adds the trend of artificial intelligence for the first time in terms of macro trends for the future development of higher education,emphasizing the potential of artificial intelligence in everyday social life;In terms of key technologies and practices,special attention is paid to addressing misinformation and mental health issues;In the future scenario prediction part,although the four development scenarios are maintained,the dominant factors affecting various future development scenarios have changed significantly.Based on the analysis of the report,this paper puts forward several enlightenments for the digital transformation of higher education in China:strengthen the construction of digital infrastructure and build a digital education ecosystem;guide technology to empower education reform and promote deepening the innovation of teaching mode;guide the establishment of lifelong learning awareness and promote the professional development of college teachers;Strengthen data security education,and establish and improve education data governance systems.
