Parental Psychological Control and Depression among The Left-behind Rural Children——The Mediating Role of Negative Emotions and the Moderating Role of Core Self-evaluation
To explore the relationship between parental psychological control and depression among left-behind children and its internal mechanism,a total of 503 left-behind children of grade 5-6 were recruited and completed a series of questionnaires that assessed parental psychological control,negative emotions,depression and core self-evaluation.The results indicated that:(1)Parental psychological control was significantly positive correlated with negative emotions and depression among left-behind children;(2)Negative emotions mediated the effect of parental psychological control and depression among left-behind chil-dren;(3)The effect of negative emotions on depression among left-behind children was moderated by core self-evaluation,the lower the level of core self-evaluation among left-behind children,the stronger the prediction effect of negative emotions on their depression.The results of this study revealed that parental psychological control increased the risk of depression among left-behind children through the mediating effect of negative emotions,and core self-evaluation can alleviate the adverse effects of negative emotions on left-behind children's depression.
