"The Story of Zhaonan Island"is one of the representative works of contemporary Chinese literature during the Singapore and Malaysia Anti-japanese War.It was conceived by Li Guo based on the memories of war witnesses and survivors about World War Ⅱ,historical experience,and historical facts.The novel reveals the awakening of local nationalism and the decline of imperial rule in Singapore during the war through a literary narrative of the thoughts,actions,and encounters of a group of small characters.It represents the resistance,cooperation,and neutrality exhibited by various social classes in Singa-pore during the Japanese occupation and high-pressure rule,and particularly constructs evidence of the collective trauma caused by the Holocaust to the Singaporean people.The collective memory of the Singaporean Chinese community about World War Ⅱ shaped by the novel,carries the author's intention of remembering the past,constructing identity and relieving collective inju-ries,and also reflects the national responsibility and responsibility of the Singaporean Chinese literary community of"I do not record,who records".
