The Relationship Between Passive Social Networking Site Use and Depression Among Middle School Students——Chain-Mediated Effects of Body Dissatisfaction and Restrictive Diets and Their Gender Differences
The Social Networking Site Surveillance Use Scale,Negative Body Self Scale,Dutch Eating Behavior Question-naire,and Flow Center Depression Inventory were used to investigate 1161 middle school students.The results found that:(1)passive social networking site use was significantly and positively associated with body dissatisfaction,restrictive eating,and depression,respectively;(2)Body dissatisfaction and restrictive eating mediated the relationship between passive social net-working site use and depression;(3)Body dissatisfaction and restrictive eating chained mediated the relationship between pas-sive social networking site use and depression,and there are gender differences.Passive internet use is a risk factor for depres-sion,and body dissatisfaction and restrictive diet also influence the occurrence of depression with gender differences,which provides theoretical guidance for the prevention and intervention of depression in middle school students.
